Warblers

Forest birds are easier to hear than to see, as they are small and hidden, and dense undergrowth will not help us find them. In winter there are a lot of thrushes, warblers and robins. There are also blackbirds, wood pigeons and jays.

This is one of the most widespread shrubs in the undergrowth of Gavarres, and it flowers (makes small white bells) and bears fruit (red berries) in autumn, just when the birds coming from the north are most hungry. In spring, its bright green leaves are the caterpillar's meal (Charaxes jasius)the arbutus butterfly.
