The Closes of La Rubina

Located in the Empordà plain, with the neighbouring sea and the background of the Pyrenees, the pieces of La Rubina are pieces of a centuries-old mosaic formed by several shells, from floodable fields and pastures that are separated from each other by rows of trees, with species typical of the riverside forests, such as alder, willow, elm and poplar.

Wildlife

European roller

The installation of nest boxes in high places has allowed the European roller, insectivorous birds as scarce as spectacular, typical of open spaces, to colonise the space. You can see them from May to August, standing on their watchtowers.

Flora and vegetation

Orchids

Among the unique flora of the pasture meadows, the richness of the orchids stands out. They are a protected species admired for the beauty of their flowers. The management of protected parts takes into account the requirements of these plants, that are very sensitive to environmental changes.
