The 11th edition of the Delta Birding Festival (DBF), organized by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, came to a close this Sunday at MónNatura Delta de l’Ebre with nearly 4,500 visitors, consolidating its role as the leading birdwatching and nature event in the Mediterranean.
Held from September 19 to 21, the festival offered more than one hundred activities for both families and specialists: international lectures, workshops, guided tours, bike routes, night activities, and the traditional fair with nearly 60 exhibitors — a record number for the Festival. This extensive program has strengthened DBF as a driver of nature tourism and local development in the Ebro Delta.
Among the highlights of this edition was the keynote by Per Alström, who presented AviList, the new unified world bird list. Singer and science communicator Bonner Black also took part with a talk on outreach and conservation, performing two live pieces during her session. The festival also featured the traditional bird release, one of the most anticipated moments of every edition.
The 3rd edition of DBF Junior (with the support of the Fundació Girbau) once again stood out as a space for youth participation: young birdwatchers between the ages of 11 and 17 presented their projects on biodiversity, migration, and conservation, highlighting the importance of involving new generations.
As in every edition, the festival allocates its proceeds to conservation projects. In 2025, it will support the restoration of the habitat at Torre dels Budells (Montllober-Massalcoreig), with the goal of recovering plant communities and species typical of the drylands of western Catalonia.
The Delta Birding Festival is made possible thanks to the collaboration of Oryx – The Nature Lover’s Shop, the Catalan Institute of Ornithology (ICO), PhotoLogistics and Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, with the institutional support of the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Catalan Government, the Ebro Delta Natural Park, the Tourism Board of Terres de l’Ebre, and the municipalities of Amposta, l’Ampolla, la Ràpita, and Sant Jaume d’Enveja.
