Camilo Mesa
He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2). Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Advanced Materials at the Jaume I University of Castellón and at Imperial College London, where he completed his PhD in 2019 in James Durrant's group. In 2019, he won the award for the best doctoral thesis in the chemistry department at Imperial College. His project focuses on the mechanistic study of different oxidation processes in semiconductors. Previously, he earned a degree in Chemistry from the National University of Colombia in 2008 and later obtained his master's degree in a joint program between the Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2011. This master's project was carried out at Imperial College London, where he studied the effect of incorporating catalysts onto hematite as a photoanode for water oxidation. Science communication has also been an integral part of his career. He coordinated and developed a project for high school students in Colombia and participated in the Imperial Festival as well as in other editions of the “Youth and Science” program.
